Bio
Henrikas Riškus, born in 1987 in Telšiai, Lithuania, is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Porto, Portugal. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design from Vilnius Academy of Arts, Klaipėda, Lithuania,
obtained in 2010, Riškus explores the interplay between randomness and order across various artistic mediums. Renowned for participatory and interactive projects, Riškus employs analog and digital media such as painting, collage, sculpture, installation, and video to create artworks that challenge conventional notions of choice and control.
Riškus’s art is characterized by a fascination with the beauty found in randomness, transcending the confines of the creative process. Utilizing techniques ranging from traditional painting and collage to modern laser cutting and animation, Riškus produces works that embody geometric, generative, and abstract aesthetics. Notable projects include the creation of dice drawings and photocopy collages, which involve collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Riškus’s large-scale drawings on burda blueprint pages and digital artworks, including animations and gif animations, showcase a unique style that invites viewers to decode and interpret the visual abstract codes according to their own perspectives and experiences.
Throughout Riškus’s career, participation in significant exhibitions and projects has garnered international acclaim. Exhibitions at venues such as Térmita in Porto, Portugal, KCCC in Klaipėda, Lithuania, [si:said] Gallery in Klaipėda, Lithuania, Panke in Berlin, Germany, and The Photocopy Club in Brighton, United Kingdom, have showcased Riškus’s innovative approach to art. Additionally, Riškus’s works are housed in various private collections worldwide. Noteworthy participations include contributions to Mural Coletivo da Restauração, Playlist #50, and Sobe e Desce in Porto, Portugal, as well as involvement in the Newman Festival in Druskininkai, Lithuania, and Pecha Kucha in Kaunas, Lithuania. Riškus’s oeuvre continues to captivate audiences, inspiring dialogue and reflection on the inherent beauty and unpredictability of the natural world.
